BAM: Freeman knocks it over the wall for game 1 win with 1st ever walk-off slam in World Series history
The ROAR of Dodger fans celebrating the historical game 1 victory over the N.Y. Yankees echoed from the Santa Monica Pier to the mountain peaks of Burbank Friday night. Los Angles Dodger Freddie Freeman stepped to the plate with bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th and launched the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history and rocketing the Dodgers to a 6-3 victory over the dumbfounded Yankees.
"I love the history of this game, to be a part of it, it’s special,” Freeman said. “I’ve been playing this game a long time, and to come up in those moments, you dream about those moments. Even when you’re 35 and been in the league for 15 years, you want to be a part of those.” “When you’re 5 years old with your two brothers, and you’re playing Wiffle ball in the backyard, those are the scenarios you dream about, two outs, bases loaded in a World Series game.” Freeman also noted, “It’s going to be hard to sleep tonight.”
MLB writer, Brent Maguire @bmags94 - "The parallels between Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam in Game 1 of the 2024 World Series and Kirk Gibson’s walk-off two-run homer in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series are uncanny.
For starters, both Dodgers stars were not playing at 100% when they hit their pivotal walk-off home runs in the first game of their respective World Series at Dodger Stadium. In Freeman’s case, it’s a right ankle sprain that’s hobbled him for weeks and forced him out of the starting lineup multiple times during the NLCS. And for Gibson, he had a severely injured left hamstring and right knee that kept him out of the ‘88 Fall Classic outside of that lone pinch-hit home run."
Looking forward to rematch in game 2 tonight October 26th at 5pm pst.
