Top Cat is loosely based on/inspired by the 1950s sitcom, The Phil Silvers Show – a series in which actor Phil Silvers played the role of Master Sergeant Ernest G. Bilko. In the show, Bilko was the leader of a group of soldiers, and was forever getting caught up in schemes.
